I wish I could write like Pam Ayres

I wish I could write like Pam Ayres
She’s an inspiration to me
To look at life like she does
That’s what I’d like to see

Her matter of fact way of telling
The day’s most humdrum tales
From cooking lunch to ironing shirts
Or shopping in the sales

Her turn of phrase, hysterical
Her view of life, well smart
As a poetess
She’s top of the tree in her art

I’ll never forget the first time
I heard her on TV
‘I wish I’d looked after me teeth’ she said
That was what did it for me

I wish I could write like Pam Ayres
She is my inspiration
But to write in rhyme takes too much time
And too much concentration
