Winter

Cold and dark with frosty days
White  frozen cars in the street
Slipping and sliding all over the place
glass under our feet.

Looking out the window days all a gloom
Nip in the air winters come soon,
Dead are the trees with their branches so bare
Even the sparrows stop and stare.

Blackbirds, and  robins searching for food
It’s  hard work for them just now
Backwards and forwards they peck at the nuts
Hoping  food continues somehow.

Blizzards and winds all part of life
Snow on the hills coming soon,
Gritting the roads playing it safe
Hail is forecast at noon.

Winters upon us when will it end
Weeks?  Months?  when
Just close your eyes and sit by the fire
For  winter will have been and gone then.
