Money

Money, cash, dosh and dough; what does it mean to you?
Does it mean a bet, drugs or booze,
Food, drink and a roof over your head,
or is it a raindrop in the sea?

What price will you pay for that bit of paper?
Give up your dignity, love or life,
For the sake of a full purse.
Your pound of flesh, what is its form?

Is it genuine need, or genuine greed?
The want for that little pound sign,
dollar, yen, rupee or lira,
Those symbols mean so much.

AmEx, Maestro or Visa; what is your card?
Multimillionaire companies, making us poorer,
To give us a distorted belief that we have
Something which has never been ours.

Was Lenin the greatest visionary of our time?
All men would be equal, none would be poor,
A house, a car and food for all,
It all seems so simple when put on paper.

Credit crunch time; what will you lose?
A grain of sand in the desert,
Or your home and your life,
Whose pain is worse?

Does money make a man better, or worse if he has none?
Should St. Peter check your bank balance,
Before opening the pearly gates,
Is the number of noughts the measure of a man?
