I was born in 1952, the youngest child of immigrant parents. My
father was a Polish Catholic, who came to England during the war,
having escaped from a Russian prisoner-of-war camp near Siberia. He
joined the British Air Force, Polish Squadron, in 1942. My mother
was a Romanian Jew living in Vienna. She escaped the Nazis just
before the war and came to England where she was evacuated from
London to Cheltenham with her mother.
I attended a convent school where I embraced Catholicism with
fervour. I regret to say I am now lapsed. I began writing poetry and
children’s stories while at Art College studying fashion in the
early seventies. I only started writing short stories recently when
I began the final leg of a seven year Open University degree and
decided to study creative writing. I like to write dark humour and
fellow students have been known to ask how many people I intend to
bump off in the first paragraph.
I am married with two grown up children. My eldest, Tom, is a
professional actor and apprentice stage fighting teacher. My
youngest, Sam, has just graduated with a degree in History and is
currently looking for employment. My husband is a nice bloke who
supports me in my writing ambitions. I work as a project manager for
a web development company and also write fashion and beauty articles
for a website, as well as being a local correspondent for the
Gloucestershire Echo.
